Community initiatives
Children learn lifesaving skills concerning what to do in the event of a fire as part of Crucial Crew
Local schools
We have been delivering presentations to school children in deprived areas within Trafford borough about fire safety. Letters have been sent home with the children to encourage their parents to have a smoke alarm and book a home fire risk assessment.
Home Fire Risk Assessment Referrals
We have been working with teams and organisations such as Trafford Social Services, Trafford Victim Support, Trafford Drug and Alcohol Teams, Domestic Violence Unit, Witness Protection and the Police to get referrals for home fire risk assessments for individuals most at risk and those hard to reach.
Warden training
Wardens at sheltered accommodation run by Trafford Housing Trust and Anchor Housing Trust receive fire safety training and tenants are made aware of fire safety issues.
Estate agents
We are working with local estate agents to promote tenants booking home fire risk assessments.
Fast Track Car Removal Scheme
A joint initiative with Trafford Borough Council and Greater Manchester Police has been set up for the quick removal of abandoned vehicles in Trafford.
Trafford Plasma TV programme
We benefit from free advertising in key public buildings in Trafford promoting home fire risk assessments and issues such as hoax 999 calls.
Crucial crew
Community Fire Safety staff are also involved in the running of the Crucial crew scheme, a multi-agency approach to safety in the home for children in Key Stage 2. The event is held once each year and is organised and run in conjunction with the Police, Ambulance Service and other local organisations that provide a wide range of safety information.
Beat Sweep
Working with the Police, Council and other local agencies, we carry our Beat Sweep initiatives in targeted areas to reduce environmental crime, house fires and anti-social behaviour and clean up areas of litter and abandoned vehicles. We participate by offering residents in the targeted areas fire safety advice and the opportunity to have a free smoke alarms fitted in their homes.
Learn Not To Burn
Operational crews are involved in The Learn Not To Burn Quiz, visiting local primary schools and teaching fire safety to children in year 5. The classes provide teams who attend their local fire stations and take part in a knock out fire safety quiz, with the winners going on through various rounds to a grand final.
