Community partnerships

Oldham Community Outreach Partnership
This partnership aims to create better relationships with young people in the community.  The purpose is to improve community cohesion and reduce anti-social tendencies through interaction and support groups.  £2 million has been set aside from the Government’s Decent Homes Initiative to provide around 28,000 mains-powered smoke detectors in 14,000 homes.

As well as the fire service, other partner groups on the Executive include representatives from Oldham Sixth Form College, Oldham Council, Oldham Primary Care Trust, Chamber of Commerce, Job Centre Plus, Groundwork and Voluntary Action Oldham. The Executive strives to makes Oldham a place where everyone is proud to belong.

The Borough Commander sits on the Oldham Executive whilst other members of the Oldham Borough Management team are on the delivery groups within the Partnership Boards and structures. The five partnership boards are Safer and Stronger Communities, Housing, Economic Development and Enterprise, Healthier Communities and Older People and Children and Young People.

Safer and Stronger Communities
One of the Partnership Boards we are active on is Safer and Stronger Communities. The aim of the Board is to tackle crime and the fear of crime and create better neighbourhoods.

Sustainable Neighbourhoods Management Group
Deputy Borough Commander Dave Harwood sits on the Sustainable Neighbourhoods Management Group.

Area Committees
The Area Committees are made up of local ward councillors and members of the local community. They offer a forum for residents and representatives of community groups in the area to discuss, comment on, and question Councillors about decisions made and being proposed which affect the area. There are six area committees - Chadderton, East Oldham, Failsworth and Hollinwood, Royton and Shaw, Saddleworth and Lees, West Oldham).

Oldham Town Centre Partnership
The Town Centre Partnership is an association of public and private sector organisations who play an important role in planning and managing the town centre. The Town Centre Partnership encourages local stakeholders to work together to ensure that the Town Centre enjoys a positive profile, has a high quality environment, is secure, accessible and attracts ongoing investment.
