COMMUNITY WORK

FIRETEAM

FIRETEAM logoFIRETEAM is two year programme run half a day a week during school time for young people who are struggling with their education or have been involved in anti-social behaviour or crime. The project aims to develop their personal and social skills.

Many schools have organised their own alternative curriculum aimed at young people who are either at risk of, or not receiving full time education for whatever reason. FIRETEAM aims to build on the existing good practice by providing a personal development programme for young people aged between 14 and 16.

Project aims

  • To reintegrate young people back into mainstream school or encourage them to seek alternative education routes such as college.
  • To deliver an individual learning package of opportunities for young people.
  • To provide a community based alternative to Key Stage 4 curriculum, for young people aged 14-16 years who are not receiving full time education for whatever reason.
  • To reduce the risk of social exclusion.
  • To reduce the risk of criminal or anti-social behaviour.
  • To work with providers of vocational training and alternative activities to meet the aspirations of the young people.

Where appropriate young people will be reintegrated back into full time education. For those for whom returning to mainstream education is not appropriate, the project will provide access to co-ordinated alternative education.  This will be through the young people enrolling on a Fire Service based BTEC, which can be tailored to individual needs, e.g. over 2 years, over 1 year.
