Clapperboard
Coronation Street star Jonathan Dixon with Best Actress Winner Gemma Hancock
Clapperboard was a project funded by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Salford City Council which gave young people the opportunity to write, act and direct their own short films. To reward their efforts, a star-studded 'Oscars-style' awards ceremony was held for the participants at The Lyric Theatre in The Lowry on 2nd October 2007.
Clapperboard UK, in association with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Salford City Council enlisted the help of professional writers from the TV and the film industry to work with young people to help them produce films about issues that affect them and their communities such as safety and anti-social behaviour.
Six schools in Salford entered their films to be judged by a jury of industry professionals which included:
- Hilary Bevan Jones - the Chair of British Academy of Film and Television Arts;
- Paul Abbott - award-winning writer of programmes such as Shameless, State of Play and Cracker;
- Christoper Eccleston - award-winning actor who has appeared on TV in Doctor Who, Heroes, Cracker and films such as Shallow Grave and Let Him Have It.
Stars of the Channel Four show Shameless presented an award
