Fire marshal
Who should attend?
Employees who may be part of a first response fire team, or have responsibility for fire safety in the workplace, evacuation of premises or supervision of fire drills.
What are the aims of the course?
This course is designed to provide participants with the required knowledge to fulfil the role of Fire Marshal/Warden and update the knowledge of existing Fire Marshals/Wardens. It will also assist those with practical responsibility for fire safety within buildings to develop procedures and fire management systems.
What is covered on the course?
The course consists of presentations mixed with practical exercises. It includes a practical extinguisher demonstration and several participants will be given the opportunity of tackling a small fire under supervision.
Where possible courses run at our Training Centre include a walk through the dark experience designed to simulate a realistic evacuation and develop team building skills necessary in such circumstances.

- Duties of Fire Marshals
- Human behaviour
- Procedures and evacuation principles
- Fire hazard spotting
- Common causes of fire
- Assessment of risk
- Legislation
- Staff training
- Fire drills
- Liaison with the Fire & Rescue Service
- Extinguisher theory and practical.
Individual two year certificates and a fire marshal handbook are issued at the end of the course.
How long does the course last?
This is a one day course. Registration is from 8:30am. The course starts at 9am and ends at approximately 4pm.
How much does it cost?
Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce members £160 plus VAT
Non-members £178 plus VAT
How often do courses run?

Where are courses held?
Courses can be run at our Fire Focus Training Centre and if held there the price includes morning tea/coffee and toast, lunch and afternoon tea/coffee.
Courses can be run at your company premises, if suitable, for a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 18 people. If your company premises are outside the Greater Manchester area there will be additional travel and subsistence costs charged – contact us for details.
