GMFRS is developing a state-of-the-art operational training centre and community safety facility in Bury.
A 10-acre area of land off Wellington Street is being transformed to provide the most realistic training and development for firefighters as well as an interactive community facility for local people.
At this exciting new development, we are offering schools and local people the chance to embark on a visit that could save their life or the life or another.
The safety centre will feature a variety of interactive experiences designed to give the public an insight into firefighting and the advice they need to lead safe and healthy lives.
The journey through the centre will also include lessons from our Survival Academy, which will give visitors basic CPR and first aid skills as part of GMFRS’ wider commitment to ensure that no child leaves school without knowing how to save a life.
Visitors can also explore a full size 'fire house' which shows a room before and after it has been devastated by flames. People will be able to spot the risks that caused the blaze and test themselves to see how quickly they could escape from a fire.
The build began in May 2015 and is expected to be completed by Autumn 2016.
