Strategic Intent Document

In 2008/9 Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's (GMFRS) Management Team embarked on an extensive staff consultation exercise which recognised the full implications of the global financial crisis, as well as making a commitment to staff to engage them in designing the Fire and Rescue Service of the future, in a manner not previously attempted.

This year (2010) the Strategic Intent Document takes the feedback from the staff consultation exercise, as well as an analysis of a changing world, and sets out to reposition the Service.

In doing so, it seeks to recognise just how much has changed in a very short period of time, most especially the implications for the public sector arising from the election of a new, coalition Government. There is now a much more radical, fast moving and challenging agenda facing the whole of the public sector, a key element of which is funding, and a need/intent to cut public sector debt dramatically and quickly.

The Fire and Rescue Service is not protected from these challenges and, so, the Strategic Intent Document seeks to propose a way forward that strikes a new balance between managing risk and managing resources.
