The Museum is a great place for young people to explore popular education themes. All schools visits are free. The format for an educational visit is normally a guided tour by our dedicated volunteer staff, followed by an education session chosen from a menu of activities.
The Museum is happy to discuss any requirements with schools and tailor your visits to meet the specific needs of your pupils; teachers are encouraged to discuss their precise requirements with us.
The Museum also offers preview sessions so that teachers can familiarise themselves with the environment and the displays.
We can offer specific sessions for primary schools on a variety of topics, such as:
At secondary level, the Museum can support vocational or diploma students by providing live briefs for ICT and Creative and Media projects.
Outreach
Although the education programme is designed to be delivered at the Museum, it may be possible to arrange outreach sessions. The Museum is staffed by volunteers so this service depends on availability.
Loan Boxes
Loan Boxes are also available from the Museum. Please contact us to find out more.
Facilities
Visits usually take place on Fridays during normal opening hours. However, educational visits may be possible at other times, subject to availability of staff. Please contact us with your requirements. Numbers are limited to around 30.
There is reasonable disabled access with all facilities situated at ground floor. Friendly guided tours are given by our team of volunteer staff. There is also a small outside seating area, souvenir shop and simple refreshments service. Adequate parking facilities for coaches and minibuses are available.
