GMFRS Museum Trust

The GMFRS museum collection is owned and operated by the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum Trust in partnership with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority.  The Trust was set up in 2008, with the following aims and objectives:

  • To advance education by studying, promoting, and conserving the history of fire and rescue services in Greater Manchester

  • To collect, restore and display items pursuant to the above

  • To establish and maintain a working museum dedicated to the subject, for the benefit of the public

  • To operate a membership scheme for persons interested in supporting the Trust's activities

  • To work closely with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (or its successors) in the wider promotion of fire safety in the community, and to use its collections to further this aim

The Trust is not, at this time, a registered charity. Thanks to the efforts and enthusiasm of the volunteers, senior fire officers and elected members of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, a Partnership Agreement, effective from 1st April 2010, ensures the present and future sustainability of the museum operation by bringing together the willingness and expertise of the volunteer members with the resources and influence of the Fire and Rescue Service.
