Patrick joined Greater Manchester Fire Service in 1974. In the early part of his career he served at a number of Fire Stations in an operational role and in Fire Safety, dealing with a number of major building projects in Manchester City Centre.
Since then Patrick has carried out various roles within the service including Station Commander, Supervisory Officer, Staff Officer at Fire Service Headquarters (FSHQ) where he became involved in fire service interests on European Harmonisation of Standards, and carried out a number of research visits and case studies in Europe and the USA, including the Amsterdam Air Disaster, and the fire service role in the Los Angeles riots. In 1992 he was appointed Divisional Commander and subsequently Head of Operations at FSHQ and then Territorial Area Commander.
In 2002 Patrick took up post as Assistant County Fire Officer (ACFO). His current responsibilities are Service Delivery and Performance Review which involves direct responsibility for the Service’s 11 Borough Commands, Service Improvement and Establishment Planning. He has also held responsibility at ACFO level for Fire Safety, Operations and Staff/Training.
Patrick is a member of the Chief Fire Officers Association and has represented the Service on European Standards, Operations, New Dimensions, Personnel and Training and the National Operations Committee. He is also Chairman of the Sports and Welfare Association.
