Gerard joined Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service in September 1997 as Financial Manager with the responsibility for providing financial management and payroll services to the Brigade.  Since that time, as Director of Finance and Technical Services, he has taken on corporate responsibility for procurement, logistics, the vehicle fleet/equipment, estates and sustainability.

Prior to working for the Fire and Rescue Service, Gerard worked in local government in St Helens, Warrington and Bury specialising in organisational efficiency and competitive tendering.  He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and in addition to his role at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, he is currently the Treasurer to the North West Fire and Rescue Management Board and Lead Financial Adviser to the newly formed NW FiReControl Company which will run the new region-wide Control Centre.  He represents the Brigade and the region on numerous regional and national working groups covering finance and procurement issues.
